The BeoVision MX7000 holds a unique place in television history: it was the first and arguably only mass-produced television set in the world with a fully active speaker system. Where every other television of the era drove its speakers from the main power amplifier board, Bang & Olufsen gave the MX7000 its own dedicated amplifiers per driver — the same principle as the BeoLab 8000 and BeoLab 6000 active loudspeakers. Four speakers are housed within the front speaker section: two woofers with rubber roll-edge surrounds in proper bass-reflex enclosures, and two dome tweeters, each with its own amplifier. The result is 96dB SPL stereo from a television — genuinely impressive for the period, and still remarkable today. The MX7000 was designed by David Lewis and produced from 1993 until 2002, when it was replaced by the MX8000. This example is particularly desirable in two respects. First, the cover finish: this MX7000 carries the rare maroon pearlescent rear cover — one of the more unusual colourways in the MX range, which was typically seen in white, black, grey, and blue. The maroon cover is clean and in excellent condition. Second, the motorised table stand: the B&O motorised turning stand for the MX series allows the television to rotate on demand via the remote control — a genuine luxury, and now increasingly difficult to find with the set.
Within the retro gaming community, the MX range has developed a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest consumer CRTs available for RGB gaming. The 28″ screen size is ideal, the SCART inputs accept full RGB from European consoles, S-Video is available for additional sources, and the Multistandard tuner plays NTSC signals on AV inputs. The picture is sharp, the geometry clean, and the active speaker system makes in-game audio genuinely enjoyable without external amplification.

Gaming note: AV1 SCART accepts full RGB input — the highest-quality analogue source connection available on this set. S-Video (S-VHS 4-pin) is the second-best option. NTSC sources play correctly on AV inputs. The MX7000 does not have 100Hz processing. Remote control and SCART cables not confirmed as included — please enquire before purchasing. A Beo4 or Beolink 1000 remote is required for full menu and feature access.
