The BeoSound Century is one of David Lewis's most celebrated designs — an all-in-one CD, cassette, and FM music system so slim it can hang flat on a wall like a painting, or sit on a tabletop stand. Introduced in 1993 and produced for over a decade, it won the Danish Design Centre's IP Prize in 1994, and remains one of the most striking examples of B&O's commitment to integrating serious performance into genuinely beautiful objects. The signature interaction is the proximity-triggered glass door: as your hand approaches, the door slides open to reveal the controls, all of which light up contextually — only the buttons relevant to the current source illuminate, keeping the panel clean and intuitive at all times. The integrated active speaker system uses separate bass and treble power amplifiers with electronic crossover and Adaptive Bass Linearisation, delivering a genuinely capable performance from a form factor that barely extends 12cm from the wall. This example is finished in the rare factory Emerald Green colourway and has been professionally serviced with a new MK2 laser fitted to the CD mechanism, ensuring reliable disc playback. The cassette deck features HX Pro recording, auto-reverse transport, and Dolby noise reduction. 30 FM presets are available. The integrated handle doubles as an active FM antenna for improved reception and portability.
