The Beogram CD 6500 is the flagship compact disc player from Bang & Olufsen's prestigious Beosystem 6500 family, produced between 1989 and 1992. It succeeded the Beogram CD 5500 with an updated Philips optical transport and refreshed Beosystem 6500 livery — the characteristic horizontal aluminium-and-black slab format that defined B&O's high-end components of the era. Inside, the engineering is exceptional: a 2×16-bit TDA1541A converter running at 4× oversampling, a digital low-pass filter combined with a Bessel/elliptical analogue stage, and a measured signal-to-noise ratio of over 110 dB A-weighted. Channel separation exceeds 101 dB. By any measure this is a high-performance player that stands up to direct comparison with the finest CD players of the period. The Beogram CD 6500 was designed to integrate into the full Beosystem 6500 stack — alongside the Beomaster 6500 receiver, BeoCord 6500 cassette deck, Beogram 6500 turntable, and Master Control Panel 6500 — using B&O's proprietary Audio Link connection. It can however also be used as a standalone source component, and connects to non-B&O equipment via its digital output. As a standalone CD player it delivers a remarkably refined sound and presents beautifully in any room.
