Launched in 2000 as the successor to the BeoSound Century, the BeoSound 1 was a significant departure in form: where the Century had a sliding glass door, cassette deck, and an array of visible controls, the BeoSound 1 concealed everything behind a single smooth curved cover with a discreet control strip at the top and a softly glowing LED at the front. The result was one of the cleanest audio objects B&O produced — a self-contained CD and FM radio system with built-in active speakers, controllable entirely by the Beo4 remote or by a touch on the top panel. The cover is user-replaceable and B&O introduced a new colour each year, making certain combinations genuinely rare. This example carries the purple (violet) cover — one of the more sought-after limited-run finishes — and is supplied with its floor stand, which raises the speaker to approximately 985mm and routes the power cable internally through the pole for a clean installation.
