The Beomaster 5500 was the heart of B&O's flagship Beosystem 5500, introduced in 1986 as the successor to the Beomaster 5000. As the audio master of the stack, it housed the FM/LW/MW tuner with 20 presets, a full preamplifier and 2×110W IEC power amplifier stage, and a built-in RIAA phono stage. Its defining innovation was the adoption of standardised Beolink codes — a move that allowed the same remote control to work across different B&O products, a pivotal step in the integration of the B&O range. Datalink connections to all Beosystem sources — Beogram CD 5500, BeoCord 5500, and Beogram 5500 turntable — enabled full two-way system control from the Master Control Panel 5500 or Beolink 1000. This particular example is exceptional in one very important respect: the finish. The standard Beomaster 5500 was produced in grey with satin aluminium throughout its production run. White was introduced only in the final year of production — 1989/1990 — as a limited edition, making this one of the rarest colour variants in the Beosystem 5500 range. Beocentral records it specifically: the all-white finish was a limited-edition system produced at the close of the 5500's run, before white became a standard option with the Beomaster 6500. This example is therefore a genuine collector's piece — a white Beomaster 5500 is significantly rarer than its 6500 or 7000 counterparts in any finish.
The unit is in very good overall condition and fully working. There is a very light mark on the top — barely noticeable and clearly visible in the listing images — which should be viewed against the unit's rarity and overall presentation. Please inspect all listing images closely before purchasing.
